Morning Mist in the Tennessee Hills and Evenings of Reflection

"As I stood and watched the mists slowly rising this morning I wondered what view was more beautiful than this.” ~ Hal Borland

As we have been traveling across this grand country, from Peace Arch Park on the the western US/Canadian Border to the history-laden borough of West Chester in Eastern Pennsylvania, from the Black Hills of Rapid City in South Dakota to Avery Island in southern Louisiana - we've been privileged to cover plenty of sites, gathering insights along the way.

And... our recent couple of sits in Tennessee have provided us with a more introspective view as we delved into our week-long Timeout strategic planning session (and we had lots to review!).  The sits were both tucked away in the Tennessee hills... far enough from the city lights that one could clearly take in the starlit evenings - and close enough to still grab some memorable southern cooking (check out our Instagram posts for more 'bout the vittles!).

One unique aspect of these sits was the porch settings for our morning coffee and evening happy hours (had to properly debrief after all those planning sessions) - for almost every day the morning mist would slowly rise and seem to return as a slow moving steam engine during the twilight hours.

The rolling mist was usually accompanied by a symphony of forest chirps, hoots, and howls from the variety of critters that call the hills home.  The settings made for some of the most relaxing times in our cross-country adventures... taking in the show that Mother Nature so majestically orchestrated on a daily basis.  And, on one evening we were even treated to a thunderous light show that turned night into day and often lasted over a hour -  easily outshining any theme park pyrotechnics we have ever seen.

Each day, as the morning sun arrived and slowly dispelled the mist, it gave us a gentle nudge to remind us that we had things to do. We moved into our day with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation that the most precious times are sometimes those quiet moments in solitude with nature and loved ones...
