It had been over 8 months since we visited with our family in Oklahoma... and while we certainly have enjoyed our cross country adventures, we missed our fam deeply! Never had the phrase "home is where the heart is" meant more to us than when we once again were surrounded by the laugher and loving that can only be experienced with grandchildren!
Due to not feeling well, two of our wonderful grandkids chose not to join us to keep everyone safe - very considerate on their part, but oh, we missed both of them so much! Time with the two littlest ones gave us lots of lessons though.
“Grandchildren restore our zest for life, and our faith in humanity.” True Story! There is nothing more refreshing (and eventually deeply exhausting) than quality time with the little ones who are so filled with possibilities and boundless energy (they also reminded us of the regenerative power of afternoon naps)!
Grandchildren also "give us a second chance to do things better because they bring out the best in us.” Below is a short list of life lessons re-learned with these precious and precocious instructors...
* Color outside the lines - most of us adults have become too caught up with following the rules - get more creative and think more outside the box!
* Play with your food - nourishment works better when you smile - get creative with the blueberries on your waffles and in your cereal bowl - you'll be amazed at how much more you enjoy your meal when it's smiling back at you!
* Bounce more - we all are going to make mistakes, falling down is a product of trying - fall more and get back up more often than you fall!
* Minnie Beds - sometimes the most common daily events as bedtime can be dramatically enhanced with some branded sheets and pillow cases.
*Afternoon naps - take them more often - the world would be a better place if we all took an afternoon siesta - less grumpy, more playful and far more patient!
