Six months ago we booked our first house sit outside of Illinois. At the time we had no other stops on our calendar - and this one was halfway across the country in Olympia WA.
It was a leap of faith, much like throwing a dart at the map and then having to figure out how to connect the dots to fill in the route with housesits. We needed to believe the right opportunities would present themselves...and, they did.
We also had to believe that we could work remotely, setting up shop across the country as digital nomads, zooming with clients from a variety of settings ranging from dining room tables to sunny covered patios - and occasionally, a home-based office with multiple monitors!
The grand-daddy of personal development, Napoleon Hill once said that “Whatever Your Mind Can Conceive and Believe, It Can Achieve.”
And... believe we have done... six months later we have traveled through Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon & Washington, housesitting along the way. We have conducted virtual workshops, attended virtual conferences, coached and consulted remotely with clients and even booked a few new ones.
The house sits we have experienced (ranging in size from small condos to estates) have provided an organic paradigm wherein we get to "live like a local," getting ideas of where to eat, visit and explore that would never have occurred had we stayed at a resort or hotel. Further, we have climbed the Black Hills of South Dakota, The Rockies of Colorado, the streets of West Seattle (some of them are actually fairly steep!), the Slopes of Mount Olympus and Mount Hood as well as the Olympic Peninsula rainforests. We have so much more to see of this great country of ours and we don't know yet which area will capture our hearts for a permanent new home. What we do believe is that it will happen! Most importantly, we have begun to abandon the paradigms of our pasts that restricted our ability to accept change and believe in the possibilities that can only be experienced by letting go of our "best laid plans," or as the Conductor of the Polar Express so wisely observed, "Seeing is believing, but, sometimes, the most real things in the world are the things we can't see."
