Nomads... Life Is Good... Barking Less... Wagging More!

After catching our breath from a fabulous though intense journey through the Rockies, we settled into our Denver sit with Dina, an acculturated bilingual bicultural rescue Lab-Pit from Mexico - the diversity of our encounters never ends! :)  And, we love that!

Our sit was adjacent to the Sloan Lake / Edgewater area, which is on the west side of Denver (if you visit, make sure to stop by the Edgewater Beer Garden - great neighborhood, food, and wonderful vibes - so much so that it made it onto our Finest Finds list - check out our review). We like to study the history of the area where we will be visiting and in Denver, we discovered a couple interesting trivia tidbits about beautiful Sloan Lake. It's hard to believe that this 200 acre lake was actually created overnight in 1861 by a man named Thomas Sloan (hence the name) who was drilling a well. He hit an underground aquifer, immediately flooding the surrounding area and earning the dubious nickname of "Sloan's Leak" until the area was formally branded once it was determined that the lake was there to stay.

We encountered another history lesson  upon our visit to Lookout Mountain (near Golden, Colorado) where Buffalo Bill is buried. The beautiful views of the surrounding area and a visit to the museum are a 'must see' for history buffs and hikers alike. What we learned was that Buffalo Bill was a firm believer in equal pay for equal work - he paid both male and female performers in his show the same - unheard of in the late 1890's (and some would claim still not as widespread across some business sectors today!). His sense of equality didn't stop there - he believed all performers, regardless of their background (Indian, military, foreigners, cowboys, etc.) should be paid strictly based on their job. This man was way ahead of his time!

It was during this sit that we both made the shift to the reality that we were now truly living the nomadic life (for Jer it was when he stopped compensating for Central Time because we no longer had a Central Time to call home!). It actually dawning on us that it is a relief to not have so many things to take care of (i.e. a home, lawn, maintenance, etc.) Now life revolves around taking care of each other - and the variety of lovely little critters that we share space with along the journey.

Rescues are particularly special to us as we had adopted a couple of them in the past.  So getting to spend time with doggies such as Dina bring us joy in so many ways... Life IS Good... we are barking less... and yes, we are Wagging More!
