Crisis Ignites Evolution

A caterpillar's journey & evolution into a butterfly.

they sold their house and became digital nomads.

The title of this post is a direct quote from a short video by Dr. Bruce Lipton, entitled "Evolution or Extinction" - and it was published 10 years ago. Lipton is widely known for his groundbreaking work related to the science of epigenetics, which the CDC defines as "the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work."

In other words, epigenetics relates to how our interpretive thoughts can alter our physical DNA. Unlike the caterpillar which is genetically imprinted with the ability to become a butterfly, epigenetics is related to how our brain can physically alter our genetics based on how we perceive the landscapes and events around us.

standard in our lives
For sure, the pandemic has certainly provided the crisis! The question is whether each of us will utilize it to evolve our thinking, or, cling to the life patterns that used to be called "normal." Like going to an office to work, attending big house parties, visiting friends and family in the hospital. On the other hand, some of us, are taking a deep breath and reimagining the possibilities of life; workplaces no longer tied to a physical space (in the "cloud" zooming), cooking more often (and with healthier ingredients), making time to video chat  family more, virtual "happy hours" with friends across the country, and using the time to complete projects.

We can attest to all those changes and we're not sure if and how our DNA may be evolving since our decision to become digital nomads - but we certainly have gained broader and more forward thinking approaches to life and living in the present. Heck, we even attended a cookie exchange party - on zoom over the holidays! (thanks to the creativity of one of Phyllis' clients) The possibilities truly are endless when we release the fears surrounding the impermanence of yesterday's standards of living and become curious about 'now.'

As Peter Drucker  once said,   “The best way to predict your future is to create it.”   And to that end, we're committed to continue experimenting with new lifestyle recipes and techniques everyday - that's one thing we can now count on!
