Encanto's Casita crumbles from the cracks in its foundation |
We just finished watching the movie "
Encanto" by Disney, and while it certainly is appropriate for children, it clearly has plenty of metaphors for us "grown ups" to ponder.
An analogy from the movie that hit "home" for us (all puns intended) was that of the magical casita being destroyed because of cracks in the assumptions that originally created it. After the house is rendered to rubble, the family comes back together to rebuild the casita, with new premises, and as one reviewer says, 'literally laying new foundations for the traditions of their
family in the years to come.' (full review: https://www.cbr.com/encantos-miracle-metaphor-for-tradition/)

Our home driveway being destroyed on our last day of packing! |
For us, the literal metaphor of "destroying old paradigms" was represented by the driveway in front of our house being dug up on the last day that we owned it, right down to the gravel foundation. The scene was visceral, for unlike previous moves, we had not only sold our home, but just about every piece of furniture and our possessions within it. In November 2021, we had "burned the ship at the beach" as the saying goes, and there was no going back as we evolved our lifestyle paradigm into digital nomads with our office in the "cloud" and what possessions we still owned down to what we could fit in our car (we plan on purchasing another home but probably not for a couple years)!

Cuddling up near the fireplace at our current house-sit |
Two months have passed since we sold our home - most of our "fears of the future" mental power chips are no longer in play and we are experiencing a new sense of freedom. There is a new found calmness and a sense of being able to adapt more easily to the world's ever changing pandemic paradigms - in our opinion, there is no going back to the "normal" that vaporized along with large holiday gatherings in the living room - it just ain't happening. Instead, we are excited and immersed in process of creating new foundations of life strategies that are grounded in analogous bricks held together with generous portions of mortar composed of hope, joy and prosperity of heart!
